It is wonderful to see how today’s men and women are improving their lives through their appearance. Allow me to partake in that trend with you. In this section of the magazine I will share my thoughts with you, along with the tricks, tips and secrets I have learned over the years for looking and feeling great.
Can you believe that I will dedicate an entire column to eyebrows? Did you know that you could look 10 years younger just by having eyebrows? Yes, it is true. Having eyebrows can make you look not only younger but dramatically enhance your appearance. Eyebrows frame the entire face and can change your “look” from sad to happy, from “Plain Jane” (or Joe) to “Magnificent” in a matter of hours, or sometimes minutes, just by having brows, or having eyebrows that are appropriate for your face.
For those of you who have no eyebrows (women or men), or wish to reshape those you have, there are a few options. You can use a soft pencil in hair-stroke motion to make brows look natural. You can also use powdered shadow or mascara to shade in your brows. A little hair spray will seal them in place. There are also semi permanent pencils, and “mascara” style liquids that don’t smear.
Eyebrow stencils are also quite a good solution and they are available at your beauty supply stores. One stencil contains several shapes. Have fun and don’t be afraid to experiment with different shapes until you find the shape that suits you. Use a soft pencil in hair-stroke motion to make brows look natural. You can also use powdered shadow or mascara to shade in your brows.
Permanent makeup will make a great solution! An experienced permanent makeup artist can achieve phenomenal results. To find one, I suggest you contact the Society for Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (www.spcp.org), a nonprofit organization that overlooks this industry. Your first step is the consultation. The artist will draw brows to suit your facial features. Don’t be afraid to disagree if you don’t like the shape, after all it is your face! Once you approve the shape, topical anesthetics will be applied. The artist will mix your colors, based on your original hair color, your current hair color and your skin tone. You are now on your way to having superb natural looking, hair like brows using micro-pigmentation.
A word of advice before you proceed: make certain the artist you choose is clean and professional, has numerous “before” and “after” photographs, has many references and an impeccable reputation.
For those with eyebrows, have them professionally shaped. Fill in bald spots, use a little hair spray to tame your brow hairs and trim unruly ones. If you have brows that are too long, or the end of the brow brings the entire shape of your upper face down, please do get rid of it. If it doesn’t enhance your appearance, you don’t need it.
